Learning the 'spin'

Inspired by Hsin-Yi and Honey's clicker training lessons, Jackson and I have been working on some clicker training tricks - specifically, the 'spin.' The downside of this is the bruises on the tops of my feet from him stepping on them while doing this. However, I finally got coordinated enough to keep my feet out of his way!

The video is of our third session doing this. I'm still doing a lot of luring to get him around, but occasionally he will follow my hand. As I reviewed this, I'm thinking that I should wait to put the command with it until after he has learned to do it. And, I may be talking too much. We may not be doing it exactly right, but we sure are having fun : )

Hi Jackson,

Wow! That is awesome!! I think you're doing really well - and I just love the way your tail is wagging all through it...it really looks like you're having fun and enjoying yourself.

Don't worry - I had to be lured for some time too - don't believe my videos, those are all done after I already know the trick so of course it looks like I learn them really fast but most dogs will take a while to go through the stages! I think you're doing great already!

So sorry I haven't visited for so long - been a bit busy and neglecting my blog friends! :-) Also - I'm sorry but I only just realised that you'd replied to my comments in your older posts. You see, my silly human doesn't tend to check back on posts that we have already read and so we never know that you have replied to our comments! Sorry to be a pain but it would be really good if you could come to my blog and reply in a comment to me, so that I'm sure I see it...as I'd hate to miss your replies!

That Honey is going to have us forming a big dog chorus line soon. She is teaching me a whole routine. I can spin very well. It is my most favorite move.

Oh I forgot to add - I step on my human A LOT too...even now - she is always covered in bruises from me jabbing her or stepping on her or whacking into her...she says if anyone saw her undressed, they'd think Paul was a baaaaad husband! :-)

He looks mighty pleased with himself! Great job.
I love Mango's comment about the big dog chorus line!

Yeah, I thought Mango's chorus line idea was great. I'm trying to envision what that might look like :)

Honey has been an inspiration to us, especially as I try to put the fun back into training. My hope is to get the tail wagging when we do utility exercises as well as tricks!
