Today we worked mostly on pivots and fronts at the club. I've been focused particularly on the pivot back for the Number 3 glove exercise. For quite some time he would end up facing the correct glove but would be sitting out in front of me instead of beside me, so I started working a lot on backing to get him used to getting back into the correct heel position. We're making progress, but not really there yet as you will see in the video here. (I have just started trying to edit and upload videos, so this looks a little fuzzy. Hopefully, that will improve with practice :-)

He's doing well! What great hind end awareness he has! I have a bit of a problem with that.
You have a really nice training area at your club. Wish we had something like that.
Thanks. We've worked a lot on that backing, and I think he's finally getting the idea. And, yes, I'm fortunate to belong to a club that has it's own building and club members have keys so we can come in any time and train. That helps :-)
I just found your blog thru the PR gang. Wow! I'm impressed with what you have accomplished with Jackson! I have shown danes in obedience before, and have a puppy in training currently. She's not at ALL the typical dane, and is a bit more challenging to train (that's putting it mildly!) I'm having to invent new ways to teach her everything. Meanwhile, I'll just keep reading your blog and follow Jackson's progress for encouragement :)
Great blog.

Thanks Holly, Good luck with your girl. Training obedience is challenging, but oh so rewarding!
Great video! I thoroughly enjoyed watching it! He is amazing. You have gotten far with his training. We only do Rally & Conformation but would LOVE to get my boy Huey to be able to do things like that! Way to go!
Thanks! Rally is great preparation for obedience. Good luck with your Rally and Conformation.
Ooh - Jackson - I'm SO impressed with this! My humans keeps trying to teach me to do this but she's really struggling. She would love to know how you start teaching it - we don't do formal Obedience but we sure need this move for dancing in Freestyle!
Slobbers,
Honey the Great Dane
Hey Honey,
Do you love treats? I do, so my Mom did a lot of luring with treats to shape my moves and help me find heel position, then put a command with it. It did take quite a lot of practice :) You're very clever, so you will probably learn this quickly!
